In these circumstances, the number of children who come to Japan with their parents and study in Japanese public schools continues to increase. The number of children who need Japanese language instruction is also increasing. In addition, these children are enrolled in any public schools in Japan.In near future, students are likely to become homeroom teachers for children who cannot speak Japanese at all or children with limited Japanese proficiency. Therefore, I conducted the lesson for students at the graduate school of teacher education. In the lesson students imagined that they would become homeroom teachers for these children with foreign backgrounds, thought about the anxiety that not only the homeroom teacher but also the children and their parents may feel, and considered the role and necessary consideration required of their homeroom teacher. In particular, to deepen students' understanding of the kinds of anxiety children feel at school, I asked an international student who had studied at Japanese elementary school as a child to share his experience.
