In this study, we examined previous research on how musicians participate in the creative process of popular music and analyzed their creative activities from the perspective of creativity. In addition to reviewing studies on the popular music industry before 2000 by Negus (2004) and Azami (2004), we highlight the recent transformation of Japanese popular music culture and the diversification of musicians' participation in the field of creation.
