First, we examine the tension between p4c and deliberative democracy. We extract two core concepts out of Jürgen Habermas’s deliberative democracy, namely, consensus building and ideal speech situations, and examine the differences and similarities between them and p4c. The ideal speech situation is resonant with p4c. In order to dispel the misconception that the ideal speech situation is unrealistic, Heidegger, who influenced this concept’s formation, is referenced. Through textual interpretation we reveal that the ideal speech situation is ontological yet rooted in lived experience. In terms of consensus building, p4c is at odds with deliberative democracy. On that point, p4c resonates with William Connolly’s agonistic democracy. We examine the differences between agonistic respect and the safety of p4c by considering agonistic respect as a cultivated civic virtue compared to safety which provides the ontological ground for such cultivation. The safety of p4c is an ontological prerequisite that makes deliberative democracy, agonistic democracy, and other forms of democracy possible. It is open to all possibilities. The conclusion of this paper is that this ontological dimension can be described and understood from the perspective of Zen. Drawing from Nishitani Keiji’s conception of the standpoint of emptiness, we describe the safe situation in p4c, which we call the ideal speech situation in action.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_1_source_id_13":{"attribute_name":"雑誌書誌ID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AA1125110X","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available"}],"filename":"Bulletin-MUE-D-24-00037田端健人先生.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"256.2 KB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"An Ideal Speech Situation in Action: p4cHawaiʻi and Miyagi beyond Deliberative and Agonistic Democracy","url":"https://mue.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/2000219/files/Bulletin-MUE-D-24-00037田端健人先生.pdf"},"version_id":"3f7fdb22-e037-4387-b460-22cccacb2b65"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"consensus","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"ontologicaldifference","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"livedexperience","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"identity and difference","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"śūnyatā (emptiness, 空 Kū)","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"合意形成","subitem_subject_language":"ja","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"存在論的差異","subitem_subject_language":"ja","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"生きられた経験","subitem_subject_language":"ja","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"アイデンティティと差異","subitem_subject_language":"ja","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"空 (Kū)","subitem_subject_language":"ja","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"An Ideal Speech Situation in Action: p4cHawaiʻi and Miyagi beyond Deliberative and Agonistic Democracy","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"An Ideal Speech Situation in Action: p4cHawaiʻi and Miyagi beyond Deliberative and Agonistic Democracy","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"1","owner":"16","path":["1744615300544"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2025-04-16"},"publish_date":"2025-04-16","publish_status":"0","recid":"2000219","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["An Ideal Speech Situation in Action: p4cHawaiʻi and Miyagi beyond Deliberative and Agonistic Democracy"],"weko_creator_id":"16","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2025-04-17T05:59:37.190194+00:00"}
