| 内容記述 | 本稿は、高村光太郎が都市に関する2編の翻訳を発表していたことの意義について、「市街の美観」が広く議論されていた1910年前後という時代の中で評価することを目的とし、高村の翻訳活動の意義を改めて論じるものである。エミール・マーニュ（Émile Magne）『都市の美学 L'Esthétique des Villes』の翻訳は、都市風景を、そこに生きる人々も含めた「流れ」として捉え、都市という無機的なものを有機的に躍動・流動させ、そこに「生 vie」を見出すような志向性を有する。ジョリス＝カルル・ユイスマンス（Joris-Karl Huysmasn）『パリ・スケッチ Croquis parisiens』の翻訳は、都市の「動き」もさることながら、そこに生活する人々による雑多で猥雑な風景として都市を捉え、都市の生活者に都市そのものを体現させるような志向性を有する。このような高村の翻訳テクストのありようは、都市の風景を静的に捉え、そこに「美観」を見出すような都市を巡る言説に対抗し、またそこに生活する人々の多様なありようを「都市計画」の名のもとに顧みない言説にも批判的な立場をとることとなる。「市区改正」や「美観」のもとに人々の生活の空間が解体されつつあった1910年前後の東京において、高村の都市に関する翻訳は、人々の「生」を、そしてさらには都市そのものの「生」を回復する可能性を有している。 | |||||||

| 内容記述 | The purpose of this article is to evaluate the significance of two of Takamura Kotaro's translation works on cities in the period around 1910, when the 'aesthetics of the city' was widely discussed, and to give a light again on the significance of Takamura's activities of translation. The translation of L'Esthétique des Villes by Émile Magne is also oriented toward the idea that the urban landscapes, including the people who live there, is a 'flow', and that the essentially inorganic city itself is organically animated and fluid, and that 'vie' (life) can be found in it. The translation of Croquis parisiens by Joris-Karl Huysmans oriented not only toward the 'movement' of the city, but also toward the city as a chaotic and obscene landscapes with the people who live there, and to have the city itself embodied by the people who live in the city. This approach to the translations by Takamura is critical of the discourses on the city that sees the urban landscapes in static terms and finds 'aesthetics' in it, as well as of the discourses that does not take account into the various ways of being of the people living there under the name of 'urban planning'. In Tokyo around 1910, when the space of people's lives was being dismantled in the name of 'municipal reform' and 'aesthetics', Takamura's translation of the city had the potential to restore the 'vie' of the people in the city, and even the 'vie' of the city itself. | |||||||
