| 内容記述 | When we say what the Currency Principle is, whether the deposit is a constituent of circulation or not is one of the questions still remains to be settled. In 1837 Col. Torrens wrote deposit is money and in 1839 Joseph Hume said deposit is a constituent of circulation in his parliamentary speech, which must have been the strong support to Torrens’ view. Against their views Tooke was one of the first critics and Overstone was negative, too. So, there were disputes among them. There were three main arenas of them, the Bank Committee in 1840, Tooke’s criticism on Hume’s speech in his History, and Articles in Morning Chronicle which are said to have been written by Overstone himself. In this paper I will focus on the second arena and show the ways in which Hume tried to give his proof and Tooke’s criticism on them. | |||||
